Calgary Swimming Pools – Where Can You Take the Kids for Public Swimming?

A friend of mine asked why I hadn’t reviewed some of the different swimming options in Calgary. Because it’s hard to do that’s why! It’s difficult to take pictures (I think I’d have to go while the pool was closed), and realistically with two kids  to do a good review I think I’d need someone to go with me to help too. It is something on my to do list though, but I don’t see completing that task any time soon.  So in the meantime, here is an overview of the public swimming options in Calgary.

Recreation Centres

Cardel Place - 11950 Country Village Link NE

  • Toddler pool, Water Park features, lazy/rapid river, hot tub

Talisman Centre - 2225 Macleod Trail South

  • Shallow teach-pool (great for kids), dive tank, two hot tubs

Trico Centre - 11150 Bonaventure Dr SE

  • Wave pool, waterslide, hot tub
  • Warm water (30 degrees for most pools)
  • Beach entry (shallow slope great for kids)
  • Trico Centre has a wonderful Aquatics Facility which includes a wave pool, waterslide, steam room, hot tub.

Vecova - 3304, 33rd Street NW

  • 1 meter shallow end, ramp right into the pool (wheelchair accessible)
  • Warm water (34.5 degrees – western Canada’s warmest)
  • Salt water

Westside Recreation - 2000-69 Street SW

  • wave pool, tot pool, lazy river, water slides, hot tub

Calgary YMCAS

City of Calgary Leisure Centres

Village Square Leisure Centre - 2623 56 St. N.E.

  • Wave pool, slides, dive tank, toddler pool, hot tub
  • Safari splash zone (water park playground) – swinging bridges, dump buckets, spray guns,  water slides

Southland Leisure Centre - 2000 Southland Dr. S.W.

  • Wave pool, slides, dive tank, hot tub, kiddie pool
  • AquaPlay structure – swinging bridges, dump buckets, spray guns, water slides

City of Calgary Swimming Pools

The City of Calgary runs 12 public indoor swimming pools. Some have babysitting on site and many are salt water pools.

Acadia Aquatic & Fitness Centre - 9009 Fairmount Dr. S.E.

  • Salt water pool
  • Two 2-metre poolside slides and a rope swing

Beltline Aquatic & Fitness Centre - 221 12 Ave. S.W.

  • Swimming pool

Bob Bahan Aquatic & Fitness Centre - 4812 14 Ave. S.E.

  • Salt water swimming pool.
  • A dive pool with diving board and slide.
  • A salt water hot tub

Canyon Meadows Aquatic & Fitness Centre  - 89 Canova Rd. S.W.

  • Salt water swimming pool
  • A diving pool with slide.
  • Hot tub

Foothills Aquatic Centre - 2915 24 Ave. N.W.

  • Swimming pool, wading pool
  • Dive pool with diving board and slide

  • 0.5 meter depth teach pool (32 degrees Celsius)

  • Variable depth pool (0.75 to 2.34 meters)
  • Hot Tub

Thornhill Aquatic & Recreation Centre - 6715 Centre St. N. (N.W.)

  • Salt water pool
  • 28.5 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Dive pool with diving board
  • Hot tub

Those are the swimming pools with public swimming that I know about. Do you know of any that I’ve missed?

    I didn’t see Westside Recreation Centre on your list. They have a great wave pool, river, water slide, warm toddler pool and hot tub. And there is a lane swimming pool as well. We take our family there often and the kids love it!
