Overall Assessment: This playground was newly installed last fall (2013) and is hands down one of the best in the city. It is huge and has features for kids of all ages and ability levels as well as many features making it great for children with special needs as well. This playground has so many features it’s hard to list them all.

We went last year shortly have the playground was completed – the snow fences were still up and the ground was quite mucky. I intend to go back later on this year to take new pictures (and because is it awesome).

There are three areas to the playground that are separated the pathway. The first has one of the biggest ramp systems that I have ever seen. This is where my kids spent most of their time. Gordie loved the train panel and he and Nicky both loved running up and down the ramps.

The second area also has accessible flooring but is designed for older kids and has no ramps. It’s set up kind of like a fort Gordie (at 4.5) found it to be pretty challenging.

The third area has pea gravel flooring. It primarily for the swings (including an accessible swing) but also has a large web climber and a tall spinner.

  2. Holy!! An incredible park! We live deep south Calgary but I just had to take my son to this park. It is an amazing park with lots to do for all age groups. Those with children of multiple age groups would love this park as there is something for all of them to play with. My loved the train!! Parks like this should be in every neighborhood. Thank you so much for visiting all these parks and letting us know whats out there.

    • Just an update to my review. We still go to this park but with many little ones enjoying the park it has taken a beating. It is still a great park but the xylophones hammers were broken last year and still not replaced. The train and animals don’t make sounds anymore, perhaps they need new batteries.

  3. Hiya… i’ve oogled this particular park to check this out with our 5… however the imagery I am receiving from goolge shows a bare bones park, could you please advise the exact address/postcode so I can look this up. • Hi If you click on ‘map’ by the address on my post I’ve put a little pin on where it is on a google map. If you just drive along the road that it’s on you’ll be sure to find it.

  4. Owen, my little 17 month old, had a great time at this playground today. The ramps make all the activities accessible and he could run where he wanted. It was a shame that a lot of the toddler section of the playground had been vandalized with hot sauce, on the slides and activities. We reported it with the 311 app.
Cons of this playground was the proximity to the road, however it was a quiet Sunday morning so not a problem.
There was a Tim’s around the corner for lunch which was great!

    • Hi,

There are two pins on the map. The one to the South should point you to Applestone Park. If it is not working for you, it’s easy to find by driving around applewood drive or you can google Applestone Park.
