With three young kids ranging in age from 6 to 6 months, it can be easy to get stuck in a fast food chain rut. Now and then I’m going to encourage my kids to be food adventurers and try some place new.

We had just spent the morning at the science centre when we spotted Burger 320 and decided to give it a try. Living in a bit of a kid bubble we hadn’t heard about it before but Chef Mario is well known in Calgary and has a reputation for good food.

Ordering is actually a lot like going to a food truck except you always know where it’s going to be. The menu is posted inside on the wall by the bar seating. There is no kids menu but you can get a basic burger for $7 which would feed two kids with smaller appetites. They make their own buns and grind their brisket on site daily.

They also have Italian pasteries, gelato and milkshakes all made on site and Family Freezed popsicles.

What I really loved about Burger 320 is that I can easily grab food my kids like but also get an upscale burger for myself with ingredients like artichoke tapenade, truffle aioli and arugula.

Your food is packed up perfectly if you want to take it to go.

My kids both got a plain burger 320 – my son ordered his with bacon on top. They both thought they were good but was a lot for them to eat. I think I have them split one next time.

I had the Gladys Ridge burger with sauteed mushrooms, cheese curds, truffle aioli and arugula.

My husband had Wickens burger with bacon, cheddar BBQ rubarb onion chutney, aioli and arugula.

And we shared an order of fries. I enjoyed the food so much I am still thinking about it days later. The fries were great, the burgers were both excellent. I am already dreaming about the next time we’ll go.

We also tried some dessert. My husband tried a scoop of the chocolate gelato that he watched them finish making.

The kids got a little scoop of the dairy-free blueberry sorbet.

And I tried a salted chocolate Family Freezed popsicle. They were all delicious.

I’m pretty sure you can’t go wrong at Burger 320 no matter what you get.
