Overall assessment:

The redevelopment of the spray park and wading pool at Prairie Winds Park have been rocky to say the least. Hopefully, that is now at an end – the spray park and wading pools are both in operation and the park is one of the best in the city.

Spray Park

The spray park located by the entrance. It’s comparable to the other city run spray parks in the city.

There are a number of large sprays including one that sprays and one that dumps a small bucket.

There are also some smaller ground level sprays that are fun to run through or for little ones to play with.

The spray park also has a water flow where you can move the fish to change how the water runs through it.

The spray park is very close to the wading pool and the North playground.

Wading Pool

The wading pool has a zero depth (beach-style) entrance and otherwise generally varies in depth between 0.3 and 0.6 meters. When my youngest was two he was able to walk throughout the pool and the water was knee high to thigh high on me.

Smaller flotation devices are allowed such as pool noodles, child sized inner tubes and kick-boards. Larger ones are not.

You may also want to consider bringing some kind of sunshade to set up on the grass. There is some shade and some picnic tables but on a busy day these may be hard to come by.

There is a zero depth entrance near the change rooms.

In the middle of the wading area there is a raised pool that is quite shallow.

This is a great spot for smaller kids but it is not right by the pool edge. Plan on being in the water with them while they are playing there.

To the West end of the wading pool is the lazy river.

The kids enjoyed walking around the lazy river.

I think it’s the biggest lazy river I’ve ever seen – the current isn’t particularly strong though.

Overall, this is a fantastic wading pool and Prairie Winds Park is a great place for a day at the park.
