Best North West Calgary Playgrounds

This is a list of the best playgrounds I’ve found in NW Calgary. Is there a playground you think should be on this list?

1. Shouldice Park Playground

Shouldice Park – 4900 Monserrat Dr. N.W.

One of the most inclusive playgrounds in the city will be a hit with kids of all ages and abilities. This playground is located in a lovely park and includes musical features, tons of options for spinning, swinging and bouncing, a huge ramp system and interesting climbers.

2. Bowness Park Playground

Bowness – Bowness Park – 8900 48 Ave. N.W.

One of Calgary’s most popular parks for years, now has an excellent playground as well. Younger kids will love the ramps and the train structure and older kids will love running up high on the bigger climber. Bowness Park also has many other great features including a wading pool and miniature train.

3. Capitol Hill Dinosaur Playground

Capitol Hill – 20th Avenue and 15th St. NW.

This playground provides great opportunities for imaginative play and will have your kids begging to go to the dinosaur playground.

4. Blakiston Park Playground

Brentwood – 3023 Blakiston Dr NW

This playground is located in a lovely little park with nearby picnic tables and mature trees. There is a preschool area with musical features and just across the pathway another area with more challenging climbing equipment.

5. Northwest Commons Park – University District Playground

Thirsk St NW & Kovitz Ln NW
The new Northwest Commons Park at the University District, strives to be a park for everyone. Not only does it place a strong emphasis on accessibility and inclusiveness, it also provides park space for multi-generational enjoyment with a nearby dog run, attractive green space and outdoor ping pong table.

6. Brentwood School Playground

Brentwood – Northmount Drive and Brantford Drive NW

Brentwood School Playground offers some unique equipment is large and varied. It is best for school aged children but there are some things younger kids will enjoy as well.

7. Carrington Playground

Carrington – Symons Valley Parkway & 14 St NW

This playground features accessible flooring, challenging equipment, a roller slide and a zipline.

8. Livingston West Park Playground

Livingston – Lucas Crescent and Lucas Parade NW
This inclusive playground in the North West community of Livingston has been specifically designed to be accessible for the hearing and visually impaired.

9. Confederation Park Playground

905 30 Ave NW

This playground was designed to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday and includes a tipped over canoe climbing sculpture, multi level fort with huge slides, a water pump and sand area and swings. The play space itself is set up as more of a social space, with seating integrated into the play area, rather than just along the perimeter.

10. Kenneth D Taylor School Playground

11. Carrington Slides Playground

Carrington – Carrington Blvd near Carrington Rd NW
If your kid is a fan of slides, they will love this new Carrington playground with lots of awesome slide options.

12.Eric Harvie School Playground

Tuscany – 357 Tuscany Dr NW

The equipment at this playground is really unusual for a school playground. It includes accessible flooring a multi-kid spinner, a roller slide and an awesome web climber.

13. Cambrian Heights School Playground

240 Cardiff Dr. NW. (just east of Northmount Dr.)

This is a great park with a huge level of variety for different ages and ability levels. The only thing it is missing is a preschool play structure but there is still a lot of other things to amuse younger children. There is also a preschool playground  close enough so you could supervise older children from there.

14. King George School Playground

9 St and 21 Ave NW

This playground is large and has a number of really cool features including the artificial log and rock features. Even though the playground is designed for kids 5-12 there is a lot that will appeal to younger kids as well.

15. 12 Mile Coulee School Playground

Tuscany –  65 Tuscany Hills Rd NW

The equipment at this park is set up in a circuit-like pattern. It was designed to be challenging and support the middle school’s phys ed and fitness programs.

16. Curious Park – Sage Hill

Sage Hill – Symons Gate – 42 Sage Bluff Gate NW

This park has colourful accessible flooring, a great slide and some fun unusual equipment.
