Gordie’s Review (15 months old) – Running around this playground was great fun! The roller slide was kind of scary.

Age Range: Aimed at accessibility for people with disabilities.
Ground Cover: Recycled tire.

Features: One medium sized play structure with a roller slide and two low ramps; a Gazebo; Sway Fun; Large accessible swing.

Shade:  Gazebo provides some shade.
Surrounding Park Area: Family picnic area nearby with a fire pit and cooking stations; Accessible Atheletic Facilities(basesball, track); Tennis courts; Basketball courts.

Seating: 2 benches, many picnic tables nearby.
Accessibility: Most things available at the ground level, wheel chair access throughout the playground.

Overall assessment: The great thing about this playground is that it is very accessible for kids to play on. Unfortunately, the location is very isolated with no neighborhood access.

The quiet can have an appeal as Gordie was able to have the run of the place and a lot more freedom than he would have been able to at a larger or busier playground. This probably would not be large enough to entertain a school aged child for long.

It has nice accessibility for toddlers if this is close to where you live. Unfortunately a few of the pieces of equipment have suffered from sand/wind damage and the ‘telephone’ and viewer no longer work. The gears and sway fun seem to be stiff.

  1. this playground looks amazing i am too surprised it is so isolated too bad it was not closer to CNIB or somewhere more central like at Prince Island Park i however look forward to taking my son to this playground, he is 23mo and we love Nellie Green playground and we live in the northeast.

  2. We took our girls (6 and 3) to this park last night and really enjoyed it. Lots of cool things to see and do that you don’t find at other parks. The super clean washrooms were open in the field house. We commented on what a well kept park it was in such a beautiful location. We live in Coventry, so the drive was not bad. Thanks for the suggestion!

  3. Lovely playground but we were the only ones there – it is a very quiet place.
Be carefull with the slide too! It pinched my daughters finger and she got very upset (she is 4).
Beside that it’s a really nice place, lots of picnic tables and BBQ area just next to it.

  4. This playground is also used by the kids at Renfrews early intervention program so can get quite busy during the school day .

  5. I know why it`s isolated. No c-train or Calgary Transit bus goes there.

In fact the nearest bus stops 30 minutes away from there. Going to and from the bus stop their is no sidewalk. People got no choice but to wheel themselves there in the wheelchair or walk. The roads leading to it are not shoveled when snow is on the ground, making the trip slippery and hard to do. In the snow the ditches are covered up so people run the risk of falling into them.
