Overall Assessment:
We visited the Tegler Discovery Zone last summer. This indoor play area is located inside the John Janzen Nature Centre.
The whole area is nature themed in a really fun and adorable way. The water area is set up like a beaver dam.
Kids can experiment with soft blocks to change the water flow.
And hide out below the ice.
The central feature is made to look like a squirrel burrow. There are slides and tunnels.
And a cave ‘underground’. There is a little bowl under here where kids can find the acorns that have been dropped from above.
There is a dense beehive climber. Or maybe crawler is a more appropriate name.
You can also see some real live bees.
On the upper floor you can make giant flowers.
And go inside a huge mushroom.
Inside the mushroom is a stop for the little squirrels to deposit their acorns.
The space isn’t huge – some days admission may be capped due to size limitations – but it was a ton of fun. My kids loved running up the ramp with an acorn, dropping it in the mushroom and going down the steep stairs into the underground tunnel.
While you are there you should also check out the Exhibit Room across the hall. It is small and unassuming but really interesting and well presented.
The overall focus is on the seasonal changes of plants and animals.
They have some cool hands on stuff including various nature artifacs.
And some small wildlife on display like frogs and garter snakes.
When was the tegler discovery zone last renovated?
