Your Child’s Review – I did not go with a child, but I was in the neighborhood and I thought I might not get back to it, so I checked it out. There were several preschool and young school aged children there, and they were energetically engaged the entire time I was there. A nearby neighbour said she sees children and young families heading to the park all the time.
Age Range: 2-10
Ground Cover: Pea gravel
Features: Two play areas within the park: 1. Preschool/toddler structure with double small slide, curved large slide, bridge, balance beam, several climbers, one tire swing, one baby swing, one regular swing.
2. School-age play area with 4 regular swings and a large cone-merry-go-round climber with rope base
Surrounding Park Area: Good bike path throughout the park – it would be a great place for trikes and bikes with training wheels. Lots of medium sized trees and bushes, with gently rolling grassy area. Would provide a safe area for preschoolers and young children to go sledding in the winter. Lots of large boulders add interest to the site.
Shade: Large gazebo beside Preschool area, shade at top of structure as well as under structure. Trees will provide more shade as they mature. Little or no shade in school-age play area.
Seating: 2 benches at each of the two sections. No seating within the gazebo, but level cement area if you brought your own.
Accessibility: Several curb-cut entry points in to the park, with good access up to the playground, but none onto the play structures, because of the pea gravel.
Overall Assessment: A very nice neighborhood playground. The rolling grassy area would invite a different kind of play than the basic field you see in most parks. The main area had nice easy steps up to the structure for toddlers. I liked that there was a separate area for the older children to swing and climb a high structure within the park but a safe distance away from the little children’s play area.
