Gordie’s Review (2 years old): The garden wall! (note: this is actually a rock climber)
Age Range: 2-12 years
Ground Cover: pea gravel
Features: Large school-age play structure with slide, volcano climber, rock wall, web, step bridge and stepping stones; Preschool climber with mini panels, steering wheels, telescopes, double ramp and mini rock wall climber; 4 swings (2 baby); merry-go-round spinner; musical station; two-seater dinosaur bouncer; multiple seat spinners.
Surrounding Park Area: This playground is next to the West Hillhurst Community Association as well as the Bowview Outdoor Pool (opens mid June). There is a soccer field and baseball diamonds to the north of the playground.
Shade: Nice mature trees on one side of the playground. The playground itself provides some shade inside the play area.
Seating: 5 benches, 2 picnic tables
Accessibility: There is a ramp to the first level of the toddler play area from the grass.
Overall assessment: This is a really well designed playground. I was really impressed with the thought put into the preschool play structure. Nearly everything on it allows to children to engage in the same activity beside each other – perfect for their developmental level.
The school-age play structure has a section with a bridge that is over 5 feet tall and has lots of different varied and uncommon features. Gordie loved going up the rock wall (I went with him because it goes so high) over the cat walk bridge and across the step bridge. Your kids will love this playground.
Went here today. Loved it. Only note, it is right by Queen Elizabeth HS and there were a large number of students (30+) all over the picnic table smoking over their lunch break.
The West Hillhurst Community playground has a new bike path. It was built this summer (late August I recall). It’s perfect for teaching your preschooler to learn to ride a bike.
