Looking for some things to do on Christmas Day with the kids in Calgary? There isn’t a ton of places that are open on Christmas Day but there are a few. Do you know of something I’ve missed? Let me know!
Outdoor Skating
Calgary has numerous outdoor skating rinks that are always open (weather permitting).

Movie Theatres
Movie Theaters are typically open on Christmas Day. This year (2019), Cineplex and Landmark Cinemas will be showing Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Christmas Light Displays
Although Zoo Lights is closed on Christmas Day, The Airdrie Festival of Lights and Lion’s Festival of Lights are both open. Doing a local house tour is also a great option.
Ski Hills
Ski Hills are often open on Christmas Day. This year, Ski Louise is hosting a Snowshoe with Santa event on Christmas Day. Nakiska has a Christmas Day family special with ski lessons, tubing and a photo op with Santa. At Sunshine in Banff you can ski for free on Christmas Day if you are dressed up (in a full costume) as Santa Clause, Mrs. Clause, or Rudolph. Norquay is also offering Santa Shredz for free on Christmas Day if you dress up in full costume as Santa, Mrs. Clause, a reindeer, or elf.
Tobogganing
As long as there is the snow for it, toboggan hills never close and Calgary has some great sledding options across the city.
Snowshoeing or cross country skiing
If you already have the gear and there is snow on the ground, snow shoeing or cross country skiing can be a great Christmas Day activity.
