Charlotte’s review (3.5 years old): “The best part was the slide and the swings.”
Age Range: 1 – 12
Ground cover: pea gravel and paved pathways
Features: Swings (baby and big kid), 2 plastic slides, small climbing structure, castle “ruins” on top of a hill.
Surrounding Park Area: A large hill with a beautiful view, a nicely landscaped park, a pond a short walk away.
Shade: Very little
Accessibility: There is a paved pathway leading up the hill to the “ruin.” The rest of the playground is not accessible.
Seating: Several benches and a picnic table.
Overall assessment: Elgin Hill has a nice view of McKenzie Towne, and the surrounding park area is very nicely landscaped. There’s plenty of space for a picnic. For my kids, the “ruin” was underwhelming.
It’s basically three large arches and a couple of small walls. The playground itself has a castle theme, but even this is better accomplished at the Prestwick Pirate Park. The playground is very long and stretched out, with the baby swings at one end, and the play structure at the far end.
If you have kids of varying ages like I do, you won’t be able to see your kids on the climbing structure or big-kid swings when you are at the baby swings. Overall, this playground is okay, but it didn’t hold my kids’ attention for long.
