Heritage Park – Rides

One of the aspects of Heritage Park that kids most look forward to is undeniably the rides. In addition to the train (see more about the trains of Heritage Park here) you can also ride on 6 different amusement park rides, ride on the paddle wheeler and take a wagon ride. All rides inside the park are included with admission. The trolley ride to the front gate is $1 per rider or included with an annual pass.

The wagon ride  gives you a tour of the park. It’s a great tour bit can be a bit long for some younger kids.

At the far end of the park you’ll find The S.S. Moyie, a re-creation of an old paddle steamer. The paddle steamer takes you for a trip around the Glenmore Reservoir. It is slow and might be longer than you would expect. It’s definitely worth going but probably isn’t something you are going to want to do over and over again.

At the Mid-way there is a large ferris wheel and a small ferris wheel that is only for small kids.

The horses on the carousel work on a different mechanism than you normally see, they don’t go up and down, they sort of rock back and forth instead. The Carousel was originally installed in Louisville Kentucky in 1904. Prior to coming to Heritage Park it has been installed in Calgary’s own Bowness Park.

In this ride you sit in cars as they spin around the track. It reminds me of a tilt-a-whirl but not quite as spinny.

In this ride, you sit in cars and go around in a circle along an undulating track. Once the ride starts a sort of curtain pull up over all the cars, so you run through the ride in the dark.

The chair swings.

The Midway has one last ride, the swing boats. You just stick your kid in the boat and push them back and forth. There’s a foot pedal that you can use as a break. These have always been one of my kids favorites.

There’s also some old fashioned carnival games beside the midway.

  1. thanks for the great review. Was googling what rides were available since this info isn’t available on heritage park’s website (kind of strange don’t you think?) planning to visit in about a week.
