Gordie’s Review (5 years old) “The spinny thing. It was also the worst part. But the worst part was kind of fun” (he went in the bowl spinner and couldn’t get himself out it was spinning so fast.)
Nicky’s Review (2 years old) “climb up” She loved trying out all the different ways to climb up the preschool-climber.
Age Range: 18 months -12 years
Ground Cover: pea gravel
Shade: Trees provide some shade on the south and west sides.
Features: Preschool climber with slides, steps and bridges; school-aged climber with slides and bridges; Large Apollo spinner; standing spinner; web spinner; 4 seater bouncer; 2 saucer swings; 4 swings (2 baby); bowl spinner; teeter-totter spinner.
Surrounding Park Area: mostly flat grassy fields.
Seating: a few benches and picnic tables.
Overall assessment: This playground is fantastic. There are lots of climbing challenges for both little kids and big kids and for kids would benefit from vestibular stimulation there is a ton of different things that you can bounce, swing and spin on. This playground would be great for groups with a wide age and ability range as there really is something for everyone.

We go to this park all the time and my kids (3 and 1) love it. One thing most people don’t know about this park is that there are two porta-potties across the field behind the trees by the tennis courts. I have always found them clean and well-stocked and they have saved us from having to run home or to the 7-11 many times.
Good to know about the Porta Pottys! We go here often as well, but I was not aware of that!
We love to hear the great comments about the playscape at Yellow Slide Park. The 50 volunteers, 400 man hours over 4 days in September and October of 2013 contributed to building a wonderful play area in the community of Deer Ridge. The funding was through the Deer Ridge Community Association with in-kind contribution from the City of Calgary. if there is any interest in seeing pictures and video of the volunteer construction the Yellow Slide Park Playscape, please visit our website at http://www.deerridgeca.com and navigate to the post archive for the months of September 2013, October 2013 and the two videos posted in November 2013. It was a great way to build community spirit and it is great to hear that families are again enjoying our Deer Ridge Yellow Slide Park.
On a side note: The Deer Ridge CA have the Portapotties set up in Yellow Slide Park from July 1 to August 31 every summer.
