Store front of La Diperie

One of the few premium ice cream shops on the north side of the city, you can now find the Montreal-based, La Diperie, in Country Hills.

When you first enter, you are greeted by a huge menu with the long list of options. Generally, you pick what you would like to be dipped (most commonly vanilla soft ice cream), then pick your choco dip and then your toppings. There are tons of combinations.

You can get your ice cream served in a bowl (which is then drizzled rather than dipped), regular cone, sugar cone or a waffle cone.

The flavours for the choco-dip include expected and unexpected flavours including milk chocolate, banana, birthday cake, green tea and orange sorbet. The toppings include things like lucky charms, crushed oreo, skor, gummy bears and sprinkles.

They also have suggested flavour combinations if you don’t want to create your own.

They have a small seating area inside with a few small tables.

My daughter got a small vanilla cone dipped in strawberry cream with cotton candy topping. She loved it and finished the whole thing.

My littlest got the same but in a cup. I’m not sure the cup really helped make it less messy as the dip makes a hard shell but luckily the staff totally expect a bit of a mess. He wasn’t totally impressed with the soft ice cream and I would get him something else a different time.

I got L’apres Match from their menu in a cup which had pretzel crumbs, dark chocoate and caramel ganache. It was super good.

My husband got a vanilla waffle cone with turtle and reeces pieces.

My oldest opted for a rice krispie with turtle dip and nerds. They both found the turtle dip to be a little too intensely sweet for their taste and would get something else next time.

Overall, we really enjoyed La Diperie and are looking forward to going back and trying more things.
