Whitecourt’s Rotary Park is easily one of the best parks for free outdoor family fun in Alberta. The playground is amazing, the spray park is great and the river slides are at the top of my list of fun things we have done as a family.

Whitecourt Rotary Park

We enjoyed it so much we visited it on our way to Grande Prairie and again on the way back home. The only negative thing in my opinion is that it is about 4.5 hours drive from Calgary, making it far for a day trip. If you have a chance to go while the river slides are open I highly recommend it.

Note: it can be quite busy even though it looks pretty empty in my photos – I try really hard to avoid including other kids in my photos as much as I can. It will be less crowded if you go earlier in the day and on a day that is warm but not hot.

Playground

Rotary Park’s playground is worth a visit even without considering the other park features. The playground is large and very tall with equipment that will appeal to kids of all ages.

They have a toddler climber as well.

And a nature-inspired area.

This playground is fantastic and will appeal to kids of a wide range of ages. A great stop even when the spray park and river slides aren’t running.

Spray Park

The spray park is a short distance away from the playground. It has a small spray area, ‘water guns’, and a huge dump bucket.

River Slides

(typically open May long weekend-September 1, Sept 1-30 weekends only, weather dependent – temperature must reach 16C)

There are two tube slides – one is a little longer and slower and the other is a little shorter and quicker. There are no tube rentals available – it is recommended that you bring your own although sometimes you can find them for sale at the concession.

This was so much fun, I wish we lived closer so we could go more often. Our 7 year old was able to go up and down independently but our 4 year old needed someone to go down with her.

There is an area at the bottom of the run with sand that the kids can play in and a pond too.

If you ever get a chance to go, you definitely should!
