Vivo Inclusive Playground

Location: map
Address: Country Village Rd NE & Country Village Way NE

Parking: free lot parking at Vivo. At the time of writing (May 2022), there is construction in the East parking lot. There is a pathway to the playground from the West parking lot at the front of the building but no pathway from the East parking lot.
Washroom: There are public bathrooms inside Vivo but it does involve a bit of a walk.

Nicky’s Review (10 years old): “I liked the merry-go-round and how they had this cool climber and the standing spinner and the boat rocker.”
Robbie’s Review (7 years old): “I liked the merry-go-round and the standing spinner.”

Age Range: 2-12 years
Ground cover: pour-in-place recycled tire

Features: Large climber with 3 level ramp, twisty slide, bridge, steps, tall slide; ground level merry-go-round; quiet space; 4 swings (one baby, one accessible); lady bug bouncer; standing spinner; seat spinner; sway fun; roller slide; saucer swing.

Surrounding park area: located by Vivo recreation centre. Connected to pathways going to the west Vivo parking lot and Country Hills Village Pond. Soccer fields and grassy areas.

Accessibility: This playground has been designed with inclusivity in mind. The whole play area has accessible flooring. There is a 3 level ramp system and steps enabling inclusive access to the main climber which has a sway fun and roller slide. The ramp has activities at the different levels and room to turn around.

The playground has some ground level features including an accessible merry-go-round, and an accessible swing. The saucer swing can also be used by laying down or together with another person. The playground is completely fenced with only a couple exit points.

The one drawback, however, is that the best parking is a 5 minute walk to the playground.

Shade: There is some shade from the playground itself but in general the playground is pretty exposed. There is also a covered picnic area next to the playground.
Seating: A few benches and several picnic tables under a shelter.

Overall assessment: This playground is a great new addition to the area. Kids of all ages will enjoy this playground but it may skew a big younger than some of the new inclusive playgrounds the city has built.

The merry-go-round spinner is a sure hit for kids of all ages and the covered picnic area makes it a great spot for a picnic lunch.

The parking access is not currently amazing but there is good pathway access makes it a great bike ride destination.

There is a lot of green space around the playground for kids to kick a ball around which can also increase the time you can spend at the playground if you have kids with various interests and attention spans.

This playground should definitely be on your bucket list this summer!
