Calgary’s Best Winter Parks

Calgary’s parks aren’t just fun in the Summer, there is fun to be had all year long. You can go outdoor ice skating, tobogganing, cross country skiing and more! Here are some of the Calgary’s best winter parks.

Bowness Park is one of the coolest places to go skating in Calgary during the Winter. The pond rink will typically open mid to late December depending on the weather.

Not only can you skate on the lagoon, you can also skate along the inlet which is a cool experience that you don’t normally get in the city.

Strollers are allowed on the ice, helmets, stabilizers and skates are available to rent and skate sharpening is also available.

Bowness Park also has groomed pathways for cross country skiing.

Confederation Park

Address: 24 Ave. & 14 St. N.W.
Washrooms are available year round

Confederation Park is a great multi-activity park during the Winter. It features a toboggan hill with two nearby outdoor skating rink run by the Rosemont Community Centre as well as cross country skiing trails run through the Confederation Park Golf Course.

The Lion’s Festival of Lights can also be found on the west side of the park along 14th street.

Olympic Plaza

Location: Downtown – 228 8 Ave. S.E.
Washrooms available year round.

Olympic Plaza is located right along the downtown C-train line making it easy to access with transit. It has a refrigerated ice surface so it opens earlier and stays open longer than other outdoor rinks in Calgary (typically mid-November until mid-March). There are also skate rentals available.

Prairie Winds Park

Location: 23 Castleridge Blvd. N.E.
Prairie Winds Park has two skating rinks. The North rink is for public skating only and the South rink can be used for shinny hockey or public skating. It also has a fantastic toboggan hill.
